The CWR squad was activated 9 Aug 2017, to assist the NSRI with a shore search between Cape Recife and Noordhoek for a diver that was reported missing after a recreational dive outing.
An extensive search was initiated, with the CWR squad covering the shore area between the Noordhoek and Cape Recife. The NSRI craft searched at sea joined by private boats. The SAPS dive unit had several divers in the water, and the Airforce with an NSRI rescue swimmer on board did aerial searches. EMS was deployed to Noordhoek and on standby there.
The search was called off late afternoon due to fading light, to be continued today.

The Coastal Water Rescue squad was activated this morning at 09:51 following reports of a missing swimmer off Hobie Beach, as received via WERC (Water Emergency Rescue Committee).
A group of students from Lusikisiki went swimming. From the shore onlookers noticed that 3 of the students were in trouble. A bystander ran in and managed to save 2 of the swimmers but was unable to locate the 3rd.
On arrival, CWR swimmers were immediately deployed into the water to start a search from the area indicated by eye witnesses where the victim was last seen. The CWR squad was joined by the Beach Office rescue jetski, and Rescue 6B from Sea Rescue Port Elizabeth. The EMS Aeromed 3 chopper was also sent to the scene and performed an aerial search.
Unfortunately, the search was not successful, and it was eventually called off.

Today at about 15:40 one of our members was just finishing her cycle at Something Good when she heard people call for help on the beach that CPR is needed. A 56 year old victim was observed unresponsive in the water, one of his friends ran in and retrieve him to shore.
CPR was initiated by a by stander, our squad member took over to assist and continued until Gardmed Ambulance Services arrived on scene. Unfortunately the resuscitation attempts were not successful.
The Coastal Water Rescue squad was not activated.

Earlier today the Coastal Water Rescue road crew assisted EMS by transporting medics to a remote site in Redhouse. On arrival the EMS medics stabilised the patient, and then transported the patient to hospital via AeroMed3.

On Sunday 30 Apr 2017 at 17h57 a notification was received from Van Stadens Resort management that a young boy was missing at the resort. With no clear indication as to where the boy was last seen, an extensive search was initiated by the resort with the help of the campers and day visitors. This was extended to include Blue Horizon Bay NW, SAPS search and rescue, SAPS Chopper, Metro Rescue and Coastal Water Rescue. The search covered the entire resort, lagoon perimeter, surround dunes and coastal areas.
Later in the evening more information came to light that he was last seen in the water of the lagoon at approximately 16:00.
A Coastal Water Rescue swimmer joined the SAPS Search & Rescue diver at 21:00 to search the lagoon, but due to poor visibility in the dark the water search was called off. The search was postponed till first light this morning.
This morning at 7am the CWR squad rendezvoused with the SAPS divers at Van Stadens Resort to assist with the lagoon search. Just before CWR entered the water the SAPS divers indicated they had located the body of this young victim in the vicinity where he was last seen, in the deep section of the lagoon.

Today at 15:11 CWR activated to squad to send rescue swimmers to Cape Recife to assist the NSRI to rescue 3 fisherman who got stuck on a rock during the incoming tide.
The CWR swimmers joined the crew from NSRI and starting swimming out to the rock where the fisherman were marooned. There was a deep gulley between the rock and the beach, with strong currents and tides making it a bit more difficult to cross.
The fisherman were equipped with either a life jacket or wraparound Bouy, and taken across the gulley one by one until they were all back on the beach where they were reunited, cold but in good spirits.
