28Jan2018 - Near drowning New Brighton Beach
28 January 2018Today at 17:48 Coastal Water Rescue activated the squad and other WERC resources for a drowning in progress at New Brighton Beach. Following on the incident earlier today two of our members went and did a shore patrol at New Brighton Beach when they observed a group entering the water. One of the swimmers appeared to be in trouble as he was stuck in a rip. The CWR swimmers immediately got dressed into their rescue gear, notified the CWR ops manager and requested that the Water Emergency Rescue Committee be notified, and entered the water.
They managed to locate the swimmer who by this stage was under the water, and no longer responsive. Together they extracted him to the closest rocks in order to initiate CPR, and continued with CPR until the EMS Rescue vehicle arrived. Together with EMS the CPR was continued until the patient was visibly breathing again, and then moved to a more secure location where the Advanced Life Support paramedics continued to attend to him.
He was taken to Dora Nginza Hospital via EMS Ambulance.
