After arrival at the scene, further information was received that an 9-year-old male child had been found by a fisherman floating in the waves. Driving past Humewood Beach a white surf ski was seen opposite Humewood Beach with both paddlers in the water, and appeared they had trouble getting back onto, and staying on the ski. Neither of the paddlers wore any flotation aids.

They managed to locate the swimmer who by this stage was under the water, and no longer responsive. Together they extracted him to the closest rocks in order to initiate CPR, and continued with CPR until the EMS Rescue vehicle arrived. Together with EMS the CPR was continued until the patient was visibly breathing again, and then moved to a more secure location where the Advanced Life Support paramedics continued to attend to him.
