03Mar2018 - Drowning Schoenies

On the Sat 03 Mar’18 at 15h43, Coastal Water Rescue (CWR) was notified by WERC NMB to a drowning in progress at Schoenmakerskop, on the beach opposite the Sacramento Restaurant. The initial report was that a child was recovered from the water and CPR had been started. Medical crew members of CWR responded and arrived on scene shortly afterwards. After arrival at the scene, further information was received that an 9-year-old male child had been found by a fisherman floating in the waves. CPR was immediately started by the fisherman for about 15/20 minutes until arrival of the first EMS unit (Netcare 911). CPR was taken over by Netcare 911 EMS, who after a period stopped the CPR and declared an unsuccessful resuscitation.

 The scene was handed over to SAPS.

Other services on scene were NMB EMS, SAPS and the Beach Office.

All other WERC organisations were on standby subject to scene report.
