25Apr2018 - Drowning Swartkops River

Today at 9.15am CWR activated the squad after receiving reports of a drowning in progress in the Swartkops river. According to information received, a single male attempted to cross the river near the M17, but got into trouble in the middle, and according to bystanders disappeared underwater.

The EMS Aeromed 2 chopper, and the SAPS Airwing assisted with aerial searches.
Despite extensive searching by the CWR squad, SAPS dive unit, BWB Rescue IRB and the Beach Office jetski, the victim was not located.

The scene was handed over to the SAPS divers who continued with further underwater searches.
