07 September 2017The Coastal Water Rescue squad was activated at 19:13 tonight following reports of a drowning in progress opposite the salt pans, Redhouse. Initially, on arrival in the general area, it was challenging to locate the actual scene, but the emergency services split up into several directions until the actual scene was located.
4 swimmers were dispatched on foot, they had to walk roughly 600-700m through the bushes and shallow river sections to reach the patient. On reaching the patient they noticed she was very disorientated and was stuck in the mud, unable to lift herself out.
Via one of the BWBLSC members contact was made with a resident who was on the river with a small boat, he assisted the swimmers to transport the patient down to the steel bridge, where the EMS ambulance was standing to treat her.
