Just before 7am this morning the squad was activated to a boat capsize on the Swartkops River mouth. Along with BWB lifesaving club, SAPS Divers and NSRI we were able to save all 4 casualties. Great job and congratulations to all involved.
Hi all, hope you had an awesome Easter with friends and family. We had a quieter than expected weekend with one very sad call out were the unit was dispatched to Struandale at 12:30 on Friday. The call came through as a young boy drowning. Tragically on our arrival we discovered there were 2 young boys missing aged 8 and 7 with their 6 year old sister watching from the side. After a 30 minute search our swimmers along with fire department recovered both young boys’ bodies. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the 2 brothers.
Major shock at Blue Water Bay were 4 of our members were on lifesaving duty when it happened and managed to rescue 15 of the 21 patients. Unfortunately with conditions the way they were made it impossible to get to all of them. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the lost men at sea. While on the scene we received a call for a boating accident on Sundays River where we sent half the squad to assist while the others assist with the search at BWB. At Sundays a 43 year male hit his head and fell off a ski boat and drown. We searched for 2 hours before handing the scene over to divers. This weekend’s rescues showed us how important it is to have craft in the water (jetski). not only does it speed up recovery of patients but it add a high point for searches as well as keeps our members safer, so if anyone knows of any big companies that are looking for a tax break please call me, we urgently looking for a Jetski and additional equipment. On Saturday we had a double drowning one at Red House (DOA) and 1 rescued near Nyoko Fire Station in Kwazakele both separate incidences at 8pm then late night we were dispatched to a drowning in progress just off New Brighton Beach Pier where a 55 year old man fell into the water, unfortunately the victim was DOA despite an intense resuscitation. To the men that responded thanks for all the hard work you put into the squad and the community we serve! This just shows anytime, day or night, Coastal Water Rescue is ready to assist.
On Saturday evening at 18:10 the squad was activated to a multiple drowning at Kings Beach where 2 of the 3 were rescued. Big thanks you to all the lifesaving clubs that were there (East Cape Champs) that assisted us with the search. Was a privilege to see everyone working together for an end goal. Unfortunately the 20 year old NMMU student is still missing. Then on Sunday the squad was activated to a drowning as Swartkops (Tiger Bay). Luckily we managed to get to the victim in time and provide medical treatment. Big thanks to Metro for their fast response. And lastly at 17:15 all emergency services were activated to a light aircraft crash on Swartkops river where a small C150 'landed' on an island in the middle of Swartkops river just off Red House. The Pilot was lucky enough to walk out of the incident. Great to see all of PE Emergency Services working hand in hand.
