At 7am today the Coastal Water Rescue squad was activated to a drowning at Wells Estate. A 20 year old male was observed in trouble, he did not exit the water and was not seen again. Coastal Water Rescue swimmers, support crew and other emergency services searched for over an hour before the search was called off due to turbulent currents.
The CWR squad was activated to a drowning in progress at Hobie Beach. A long distance swimmer went out at about 9am and failed to report. He was reported missing by the lifeguards. The scene was handed over to the SAPS.
At 18:00 Coastal Water Rescue was activated with a drowning in progress at Kings Beach near the harbour wall. A 28 year old male went swimming and did not return. CWR squad members did a visual search from the harbour wall, with other squad members performing an in water search. The search was called off due to bad light, and will be resumed in the morning.
Coastal Water Rescue was activated this morning 7.30am after reports received of a boat with 6 occupants that flipped in the Swartkops River mouth. All occupants made it safely to shore and a stand down was issued before the squad reached the scene.
The Coastal Water Rescue squad was activated this afternoon for a drowning in progress in the vicinity of Shark Rock Pier, on arrival by squad members it was determined to be a false alarm and a stand down was issued. CWR Update: CWR was activated to Hobie Beach when a member of the public spotted a person about 400m off-shore and thought the person to be in distress and, understandably so, reported it. It was then a swimmer going for a morning swim, hence a false alarm. Stand down was called.
A skipper's Jet Ski lost power not too far off shore close to Something Good. CWR was called out to the scene, but the skipper got the motor started and managed to beach the Jet Ski safely.
