04Jan2017 - Paddler in distress
04 January 2017Coastal Water Rescue activated the squad this morning at 8am after reports from the SAPS that a paddler was in distress just off Humewood Beach as reported by an eye witness. On arrival on scene the emergency services could not find any craft in sight from the location. The immediate area was searched by the Beach Office using their jetski.
CWR found two paddlers at Kings Beach in the surf, and it was confirmed that it was one of them who had difficulty getting back onto the ski, but the paddler was assisted by a fellow paddler and together they made their way safely to Kings Beach.
It was confirmed by the eye witness that the paddler was not wearing a life jacket or any other buoyancy aid, any person going to sea should always take their own safety into consideration, most of the time the life jacket is that one item that will save you from becoming a statistic.
