Groendal Rescue
05 April 2015At approximately 15h15, on Sunday 5th April 2015, Coastal Water Rescue responded to a search and Rescue which involved 7 hikers being caught and stranded in unfavourable weather conditions in the Groendal Nature Reserve, Uitenhage.
The Groendal reserve had become inaccessible by foot and utility vehicles due to flooding of rivers. On scene with CWR were SAPS / SAR, Metro EMS, Mountain club, Rangers and the Airforce. A well co-ordinated joint search and rescue was executed which ended in all 7 hikers being airlifted, by helicoptor, from the Groendal reserve and safely hoisted down to the assembly point.
The 7 hikers were taken by EMS Ambo 848 to an allocated venue in town. The hikers appeared in good spirits and all 7 indicated that they did not require medical care.
