12 January 2015Today at 16h37 Coastal Water Rescue was notified of a drowning in progress at Maitlands Beach. The squad was immediately activated to respond. Shortly after the activation was further information received that there was now additional people in the water who was in trouble. The NSRI was also activated to launch one of their rescue craft to assist with a water search should it become necessary.
Our first rescue crew arrived on scene and immediately entered the water to assist the people in trouble who was approximate 100m from the beach. They were successfully assisted to shore where medics from EMS took over and started treatment. One male patient was evacuated by the EMS medical response helicopter AEROMED3, and the female patient was taken by ambulance. Both patients were in a stable condition.
Great team work by all the emergency services on scene, EMS, Beach Office, SAPS and the NSRI.
