08 January 2015At 14:28 Coastal Water Rescue was activated to a drowning in progress at the Deal Party Lighthouse.
The report was that a 32 year old male was in trouble in the water.
Upon arrival further information was obtained from an eye witness, was that 3 young children were playing in the water and got into the trouble. The bystander observed this and went into the water to assist, the children were successfully helped out of the water, but sadly he got into trouble himself.
An immediate search was launched with the Beach Office surf rescue jet ski, with a CWR and NSRI rescue swimmer in tow on the surfski board. From the land there were many spotters from various services to assist the rescuers in the water doing a shoreline search.
The patient was located and retrieved by the Beach Office jetski, assisted by one of our CWR rescue swimmers. Immediate CPR was begun, and then despite the repeated attempts by the medical staff performing ALS to resuscitate the patient, it was unsuccessful.
Today you gave your life during a heroic and unselfish act to save others!
Our condolences to the friends and family of the victim.
Great team work by all the emergency services of
EMS, SAPS , FIRE ,BEACH OFFICE, NSRI.
