26Nov2025 - Drowning Brighton Beach

26 November 2025

The Coastal Water Rescue squad was activated at 14:40 today following reports of a drowning in progress at Brighton Beach.

On arrival, according to eyewitness reports, a 17-year-old male had got into difficulty and was last seen being swept away.

Swimmers from Coastal Water Rescue and the Beach Office entered the water and started a surface search, but due to strong currents, the search was called off after about 30 minutes. At the same time, the SAPS K9 S&R unit conducted a vehicle search on the northern side of the Brighton Beach pier.

NSRI Station 6 responded with Rescue 6C and resumed the search, also with no result.

The SAPS will continue the search tomorrow.
