10Aug2022 - Drowning Smelly Creek

10 August 2022

On Wednesday 10 August 2022 the CWR squad was activated at 21:22 following a report from the Water Emergency Rescue Committee of a drowning in progress at Smelly Creek.

On arrival it was established that a single male had gone down the dolosse into the water, got into trouble and subsequently submerged.

Dangerous conditions with surging waves next to the dolosse prevented any swimmers from being deployed for safety reasons. NSRI Station 6 responded with two craft which did a sea search, while all the responding services did a shore search from the top of the dolosse.

The search was called off after an extensive search and the scene handed over the SAPS.

Services on Scene: Coastal Water Rescue, BWBLSC, Beach Office, NMBMM Fire, SAPS Sector Vehicle, SAPS Divers, NSRI Station 6.
