24Apr2022 - Suicidal person - Coega Harbour

On Sunday 24 Apr 2022 the squad was activated at 07:19 following a request for assistance with a suicidal person threatening jump off the harbour wall at Coega Harbour. 

On arrival the individual had moved from the harbour wall to a tower of about 15m and was threatening to jump. Attemps by the SAPS members on scene to get him down from the tower failed, and when they tried to get onto the tower the individual proceeded to jump across into the jjjwater. 

It was decided to not deploy swimmers immediately as he was fully conscious and swimming, but it was noticed that he was struggling to stay afljjjjoat, the CWR members threw down a torpedo buoy to him, and and a 30m throw rope. He was holding onto the torpedo buoy and rope whilst the SAPS divers on scene started pulling him back towards land, the CWR swimmers entered the water from the other side to assist and brought him back to shore where he was handed over to EMS and the SAPS.
