27Feb2022 - Drowning Hobie Beach

On 27 Feb 2022 at 18:35 the CWR squad was activated after reports of a drowning in progress, information was received that two people had jumped off the pier and were in the water. 

On arrival, it was found that a bystander noticed the commotion, and happened to be a veteran lifeguard. He immediately sprang into action and swam out to the one casualty which at the time was about 100m from the beach in very choppy conditions. He retrieved him while starting CPR in the water. Once back on the beach did he continue with the CPR and asked bystanders to call for help. 

When the first CWR members arrived they immediately went to the scene and assisted in rotation with the CPR while the medics attended to the casualty, who was unfortunately declared deceased on the scene.
