14Sep2019 - Drowning Swartkops River Mouth
15 September 2019The squad was activated on Saturday 14 September at 18:17 following reports from the BWBLSC via the Water Emergency Rescue Committee of a drowning in progress at the Swartkops River Mouth.
On arrival, it was established that an 11 year old child slipped into the river, and fell into the very fast flowing channel whilst the tide was going out.
A search was immediately initiated by the BWBLSC lifeguards and our rescue swimmers joined in. After an extensive search during dark and difficult conditions it was decided to call the search off.
Sea Rescue Station 6 sent their craft Rescue 6A which did a search behind the breakers.
This morning at first light the search was continued by the BWBLSC lifeguards, Beach Office, SAPS Chopper and the NSRI.
At 10:53 assistance for more swimmers was requested by the BWBLSC and the squad was activated to respond to BWB to assist with the search, but unfortunately again despite the extensive search nothing was found.
The emergency services will continue the search.
