11Apr2017 - Drowning Amsterdam Hoek

Coastal Water Rescue activated the squad at 16:40 today after reports received from BWB Rescue about a drowning in progress at Amsterdam Hoek.

On arrival it was established that a group of builders went for a swim in the river after work. One of the workers got into trouble shortly after entering the water, and the others raised the alarm.

CWR members entered the water to continue with the search which had already been started by members of the BWB Rescue. Despite searching for over an hour they were not successful.  The scene was handed over to the SAPS Diving Unit,  who continued with an extensive underwater search.  Unfortunately they also were not successful.

On scene: Coastal Water Rescue, BWB Rescue, BWB iPatrol, Beach Office, Fire Department, EMS, EMS Rescue and SAPS Dive Unit.
