02Mar2017 - Drowning Sunday's River
02 March 2017Coastal Water Rescue activated the squad at 14:06 today following reports from WERC (Water Emergency Rescue Committee) about a drowning in progress at Sunday's River.
A 21 year old male attempted to cross the river, but started experiencing difficulty in the middle of the river. Attempts by friends to assist failed and they raised the alarm.
On arrival CWR members immediately started with a surface based search, but later handed the scene over to the SAPS Divers, who continued to do a prolonged and extensive underwater search.
The body of the drowning victim was not recovered, and the SAPS will continue the search tomorrow.
