19Feb2017 - Near Drowning Kings Beach

20 February 2017

Today at 12h30, whilst CWR training at Kings beach was in session, a near drowning incident took place slightly further up Kings beach near the McArthur pool side. Kings beach voluntary lifeguards were alerted to the victim who was observed floating behind the surf line.

They responded immediately and located the 45 year old adult floating face down, lifeless in the water. The patient was rescued from the water & CPR commenced on the beach. CWR were alerted and responded to the situation. CWR and Metro Advance Life support paramedics took over the treatment of the patient. During CPR the patient showed positive signs of recovery. On arrival of EMS the patient was evacuated via ambulance to hospital.

A big thank you to KB volunteer lifeguards TAMLYN GILL and BRADLEY ORDENDAAL who showed extreme professionalism in the rescue and CPR which ultimately saved the patient’s life.

The following services were involved NMB EMS, KINGS BEACH LIFESAVING CLUB, CWR, BEACH OFFICE and SAPS and all involved must be congratulated on a professional and well co-ordinated rescue.
